TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
MORNING: We start our day at the State Hygienic Laboratory. Please bring a Photo ID such as a driver’s license to enter the Hygienic Lab. The Hygienic Laboratory supports Iowa’s 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening. The State Hygienic Laboratory’s mission is to protect and improve the quality of life in Iowa.
The vision is for Iowa to be a national leader in improving and sustaining quality of life through innovation, practice, and policy. It should be a very educational and informative morning. The State Hygienic Laboratory’s main facilities are headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park campus northwest of Iowa City in Coralville
LUNCH: Copper Boar American Pub, Cameron Way, North Liberty - Order off Menu, cost is on your own.
AFTERNOON: At 1:30 we will tour the Driving Safety Research Institute. This is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes.
The aim of the Driving research institute is to make roads safer by researching the connection between humans and vehicles. It is also the home for the National Advanced Driving Simulator.
The Institute is funded by the government, military, and has many industrial partners. Their expertise provides information about driving and the human factors, drugs and driving and how this data relates to vehicles. The research team collaborates with health sciences, works with older and novice drivers and carries out simulation science. It should be very exciting to learn about the Driving Safety Research. This will be a great way to end the day.
Cost: There is no cost for either the Hygienic Lab or the Driving Safety Institute. The only cost will be lunch at Copper Boar .

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
The Carnegie Cultural Center in New Hampton is a non-profit Cultural Center and Chickasaw County Museum located in the preserved Carnegie Library built in 1908.
Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish immigrant, founded 101 libraries in Iowa alone. We will find out how many buildings are still standing and how many are still libraries. The Museum features both permanent and temporary exhibits which includes a display of artifacts that preserves the history and culture of Chickasaw County.
Our next stop is the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua. Over 40,000 visitors come to Little Brown Church each year. Weekly services are held each Sunday at 10:30 AM. The church is completely handicapped accessible.
LUNCH: After the tour we will be served a hot lunch by the “Church Ladies”. Menu: Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Salad, Dessert and Drink.
Our final stop will be at The Whole Country Caboodle
Leanne Anderson and Kaytlyn Kuebler, a mother and daughter team, has been providing the quilting community with an exclusive line of whimsical designs and fun sewing projects since 1992. They love creating whimsical lines of fabric for Henry Glass Fabrics, making sure that every collection has a story to tell. Along with the fabric, they have an extensive line of laser precut fused appliques, patterns, and kits that coordinate with their fabric.
Cost: $22 member / $24 member's guest (includes entrance fees lunch and donation).
We suggest giving $10-12 to your driver for gas.

Meet: Park in South Parking lot behind Xtream Arena. We will meet at the front door at 9:45. Tour starts at 10:00. After lunch we will meet at 12:50 next door to the Arena for our tour of the Antique Car Museum at 1:00.
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
Morning tour of Xtream Arena and Green State Family Fieldhouse. The 5,100 fixed-seat (6,600 concert capacity) Xtream Arena powered by Mediacom serves as a highly accessible and most importantly, right sized venue for concerts, family shows, and special events. The arena is home for University of Iowa Volleyball and the Iowa Heartlanders ECHL hockey teams. With the arena’s direct connectivity to the 32,000 sq. ft 5-court Green State Family Fieldhouse, the facility enables this community to become a signature attracter of both amateur and professional sporting events and activities such as adult sports tournaments, community recreational programming, adult leagues, and other events. It will be a tour to remember.

These restaurants are near the Arena in the Iowa River Landing, Coralville. If you know where you want to go, we can make reservations.
After lunch we will tour the Antique Car Museum and the Johnson County Historical Society. The car museum of Iowa showcases over eighty automobiles dating from 1899 to 1965 as well as an original Skelly gas station. There is also a collection of antique Iowa license plates.
Included in the tour is the Johnson County Historical Society which is a private non-profit group committed to serving the public by furthering an appreciation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Johnson County community through education, preservation, and interpretation. The Historical Society has had many homes but landed in its final location, the Xtream Arena, in 2021. It will be a fun afternoon and the museum also features a gift shop.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
Join us on this educational trip to see these iconic structures in Johnson County: Coralville Dam Complex and Sutliff Bridge, both on the National Register of Historic Places.
We will learn of their histories and how people, wildlife and nature have affected their survival over time.
For our first stop, we will meet at the shelter at Coralville Dam Complex East Overlook Day Use Area. Corps of Engineers Ranger Zachary Schriver will be our speaker.
LUNCH:
Our second stop: lunch on your own at Baxa’s in Sutliff (across the street from Sutliff Bridge).
NOTE: this restaurant accepts CASH ONLY!
After lunch, we will stroll across beautiful Sutliff Bridge on the Cedar River (the longest footbridge in Johnson County) and learn about this once 227 foot long vehicle bridge turned pedestrian bridge and its fascinating history.
PLEASE NOTE: Limited Seating on Sutliff Bridge. Please consider bringing a lawn chair.
